What’s New at Be a Travel Bee?

As you can probably tell, Be A Travel Bee looks a little different. I care about this blog and wanted to improve it and any help I got came from Travel Blog Success. I have switched to a self-hosted site and hopefully this design is simple, clean, and easy to read. To read more about Travel Blog Success and why I think you should sign up if you haven’t already visit my new page up at the top to learn.

I have added a Links section including some of my favorite travel blogs that I like to read. If you would like to do a link exchange just let me know!

You will also see a Featured On page. Lately, I have had many great opportunities to write guest posts for other blogs and this page is where you can access all of them. I have two guests posts coming up this month for Nomadic Chick and Suzy Guese which I am very excited about so look out for those soon.

The only thing that is missing is a logo design up at the top here and I’ll be working on that in the coming weeks. Just look for a bee around here somewhere soon.

If you have any suggestions for what could make this blog better, I am always open to your comments.

Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog via the RSS feed if you would like to read more of my posts in the future.

Three Travel Bites of the Week

Happy Friday! I hope you have a great weekend. Here are my Three Travel Bites of the Week:

1. Why Aren’t Students Reading Travel Books? They are not reading much non-fiction to begin with and it’s kind of ridiculous. Jim Benning over at World Hum compiled some articles relaying the facts and has started a discussion about what is one travel book that would be good for students to read? Think about it and go on over and join the discussion because the bottom line is students need a real-world education and putting a good travel book in their hands would be the best learning tool.

2. For Alison, moving to Belgium with her husband was a difficult transition but her travel blog saved the day. Alison from http://cheeseweb.eu/ wrote a guest post on AlmostFearless about How Blogging Saved my Expat Life. The response to this article was huge and my inbox filled up with comments all week once I joined the discussion so I had to share it with all of you. It is such a unique perspective about how Alison found an expat community through her blog and was able to make friends she could relate to and help her through her initial trials and tribulations. Such a good read!

3. Today is the 6-month anniversary of Be a TravelBee. I started this site to encourage others, especially young people, to start traveling. I have been learning so much about building my blog from the travel community so thank you to everyone that I have “met” through this blog. This space is a work in progress and I plan to develop it to the best that it can be. I am working on Travel Blog Success right now learning how to provide quality content in an appealing package so expect a redesign in April. If you have any suggestions of what would look good on my site or what would help make the redesign go smoothly, please leave a comment! I’d love to hear from you.

Three Travel Bites of the Week

Happy Friday! I don’t know about you but I have a long to-do list for this weekend. Here are three travel bites of the week:

1. Boys, don’t be scared. Brooke vs. The World created the Female Travel Underground monthly newsletter. Being a girl out on the road is tough and this newsletter will hopefully build a community for women to share stories, tips, and advice to make the journey just a little bit easier. Visit Brooke’s site to sign up and men don’t be shy – this may help you finally understand the female psyche.

2. I just became a fan of A Pair of Panties and Boxers this week. I’ve talked before about how BUNAC gave me the opportunity to work abroad but A Pair of Panties and Boxers in conjunction with I Wish Gap Year delivered a great post on Why You Should Consider Working Abroad. They break down the different types of work abroad and the pros and cons of each. The reason I started blogging was because I wanted to encourage others to work abroad and travel and this post did a great job of doing just that and I think it is a must read.

3. If you want to build a travel writing career, BootsnAll Travel can help. This week they introduced the BootsnAll Travel Writer Platform where selected applicants will be able to write about a destination they love with a theme, such as Business Travel or Adventure Travel. The goal of this platform is to create quality travel content on the web. This is a long-term committment but a well-invested one if travel writing is your passion. Visit the site to read FAQs and to apply and check out the video below to learn about the type of applicant they are looking for.
